Vintage Omega constellation ST 168.0056 1973

The Omega constellation line has seen many changes in design over the years. From the iconic pie pan dials to the more obscure square pieces with integrated bracelets, the constellation line has seen it all. But none as recognisable as the C-shape case variants Omega made in the 1970s. This special case shape was designed to hug the wrist seamlessly to make wearing a watch like this one incredibly comfortable.

The present watch we are offering was made in 1973 and runs on the reliable automatic cal. 1011 with date function and is fitted in a 35mm C-shape case. The dial on this stunner has a deep snow white colour and watches very well with the custard patina on both the lume of the hands and hour markers. Another special feature of this watch is the swapped text on the dial. Omega`s designers decided to put the applied Omega letters at the bottom of the dial and swapping it with the constellation text, now placed at the top of the dial. The condition of this piece is excellent, and has an unpolished case which can be seen by the chamfors still visible on the lugs. There is a small bit of dirt where the crystal and case connect under the crystal.

What we love:

  • Gorgeous C-shape case
  • Beautifully aged lume
  • Swapped text on the dial

What you should know:

  • Small bit of dirt where the crystal and case connect under the crystal

OMEGA Constellation

First appearing in 1952, the Constellation was designed to be Omega’s main watch. This was the brand’s first mass-produced chronometer grade wristwatch and the brainchild of designer René Bannwart. The Constellation was originally called the ‘Globemaster’ in the USA, though it was dropped in 1956 as Douglas Aircraft, manufacturers of the huge transport planes of the same name, held the trademark on the name.
