Vintage Omega Speedmaster 145.022-74 from 1969/74

The story of a watch can give you a feeling of warmth and works as a fuel for the passion us watch lovers feel. These mechanical wrist pieces are like companions we bring with us on every adventure life may bring. One of those special companions is this Omega Speedmaster 145.022-74

¨I became a referee for the Royal Dutch Football Association when I was 16, in 1980. Because of the nature of this job I had to time everything and was in desperate need of a watch. So around 1982 my father and I went to a jeweler to buy me my first watch. I chose a Tissot Navigator Automatic for my first watch, and simultaneously my father bought a gorgeous Omega Speedmaster. Ever since that moment I have never seen my dad without that watch on his wrist. A few years ago his eyesight had become worse and was unable to read the time anymore. Knowing that I am a watch enthusiast he decided to pass it down to me. When I received the watch it was in rough condition so I had to service it. After hearing the cost of servicing my father and I decided, with pain in our hearts, to sell this watch and buy a new watch that I can proudly wear and always have as a keepsake to my father.¨

A beautiful story we think most people would be touched by! The watch itself is preserved well and holds nice vintage characteristics. The gorgeous faded bezel and beautifully aged patina on the dial is truly a piece of art.

This Omega speedmaster was bought in 1982 but has a movement from 1968/1969. The serial number on the movement does not match the ref 145.022-74 serial number range and thus was presumably serviced between 1974 and 1982 during which the movement was entirely replaced. This watch was not serviced between 1982 and 2021 concluding the movement was swapped before the purchase in 1982. Recently this watch received a full service and is working perfectly now.

What we love:

  • Touching provenance
  • Gorgeously aged bezel
  • fantastic patina

What you should know:

  • Movement was swapped for one from 1968/1969
  • Replaced pusher during most recent service

OMEGA IN 1974

After the Apollo XI mission in 1969, the Omega Speedmaster became forever known as “moonwatch”. The 145.022-74 was produced shortly after. The difference was mostly observable in the printed logo and different caseback.
