In our effort to provide the most complete overview for your Omega watch we can’t leave Lift Angles out. Knowing Lift Angles is important when you possess a timegrapher. It is necessary to calculate the amplitude.

What is a Lift Angle?

The Balance Wheel, that’s located inside a watch movement, swings both clockwise and counter clockwise. Those swings are called “beats”.

Right in the middle of a clockwise or counter clockwise swing, the crown of the pallet form enters the impulse pin.

This movement makes sure that the pallet fork snaps to the other position, and the impulse pin is released.

At the end of the swing, the impulse pin comes back and enters the crown of the pallet fork from the other side, and so on.

The angle (degrees) between the entry and the exit of the impulse pin is called the Lift Angle.

Generally the Lift Angle falls between 48 and 54. Most timegraphers show a standard value of 52 degrees. You can keep these settings for quick testing but to make a more accurate calculation you need to know the exact lift angles of the movement you want to measure.
